C-THRU MY EYES

I’ve had a couple people come to me and say they miss my posts, which makes me sad. I’m trying to post, but know it has slowed down a little bit. I have so much going on and I just want to fill you guys in on why my posts aren’t coming as regularly.

I graduate from college on May 9th and until then, my school work is my number one priority – of course makeup is my passion and I have continued to work on it throughout my academic career, but with finals approaching I have several group projects, several research papers and tests that I have to prepare for – so posting on my website kind of gets pushed back… My posts will become more regular when I get to NYC and settle in.

Speaking of NYC – I have to focus and pack up my entire apartment  – along with selling my furniture, figuring out what to do with the stuff I don’t want to bring (if anyone wants to buy two amazing brown suede sofas let me know! – I just can’t haul them the 9 1/2 hour drive to NYC). There is a lot of planning that has to go on and I have about 3 weeks to get it all together. Whew, which me luck…

I also have some great business in the works – I do not want to speak on it yet, but I have been trying to get some great stuff moving so that I can hit the pavement running when I get to NYC – I already have so many people to thank for looking out for me!

I don’t want to bore you too much with details. By the end of the weekend I’ll have some nice candid pictures from a video shoot I’ll be working on for Broadway Miller – it’s a two day event (Thursday and Friday).

Before I leave I plan to have another independent makeup shoot with Lauren Cowart and hopefully do some makeup for graduation photos she will be doing. Check out her work here!

In the meantime, please hold tight! I am posting as much as I can and promise to report on things that are “report worthy” – a lot of photos I’ve been seeing just don’t look interesting enoug hfor me to post them.

How do I know her: I am such a MAC junkie, I’ve met two of my now-close friends at MAC, Jewel and Brittany Marshall!

Anna: Okay, Jewel, how long have you been doing makeup for?
Jewel: Since when I can remember, literally. Like 7 years old!

Anna: What was your first memory of makeup?
Jewel: When I used to go to church my Mom she used to always have cherry Chapstick. I’d put hers on for 10 minutes straight and my lips would be hot pink. And she used to say I would put too much on and I’d be like “It’s okay…” [laughs].

Anna: Tell me your everyday makeup routine?
Jewel: First I moisturize cause I have super dry skin. I mix moisturizer with my sheer foundation. I use MAC Select Tint – they actually took it off the market! I use Mineralize MAC powder – I use the darkest one… put it all over my face, like a bronzer, but it doesn’t have glitter. Then I use blush – any MAC kind. Then mascara -MAC Plush Lash. I’ve been through Dior all that…I didn’t hate Dior but it wasn’t all that.

Anna: Oh my gosh, Plush Lash is the mascara I liked least [laughs].
Jewel: Really?! I love plush lash…people ask me if my lashes are fake. I apply four coats. I go through a tube in one month! Then I usually use Myth from MAC. It’s like a pale matte lipstick.

Anna: So what do you do extra to get glammed up for a night out?
Jewel: Everything I just told you…Everything the same to my face. I might do something crazy on my eyes. Or a bright lipstick!

Anna: What are the 3 things you have to put in your makeup bag?
Jewel: Something for my lips: lipstick or lipgloss. I keep mascara in there all the time Anna, no joke. I let it dry do another coat…it’s crazy. What else do I have to have (pause)…that’s really it, honestly.

Anna: Okay, cool. How long does it take you to do a full face of makeup on someone else?
Jewel: 25- 30 minutes for a full face. I’m fast!

Anna: Wow, true. How did you enjoy working at MAC and would you work there again?
Jewel: Hell yea, I loved it! [laughs]. I loved it cause you can be so creative. You can be any character you want, sky was the limit. As long as you’re inside the fashion guidelines. You can have tattoos and piercings, anything you want. They do not hire boring looking people.  Brittany was just so cute they hired her on the spot. So many people came in before her but she was so cute they hired her. It’s so funny.

Anna: What’s another makeup company you would love working for?
Jewel: I would love to work for NARS.

Anna: Who’s your favorite makeup artist?
Jewel: Ummm…this one guy – He’s not even that famous – that makeup reality show…the one that won that show. I loved him. I can google it later.

Anna: [laughs] Okay! What’s in the future for you – any projects you are working on?
Jewel: I’m in the process of building my image consulting company – so that incorporates all my loves: makeup, skincare and fashion. Making women feel beautiful period!!

Anna: Congrats! Any last words of wisdom you want to leave us with?
Jewel: I dunno Anna…You put me on the spot! Basically “do whatever you want in life…whatever you really want to do, it can happen, whether it’s be a whore…no I’m just kidding!…Do what you want though.”
